Care and maintenance

Routinely cleaning the hearing aids keeps them working well and reduces the need for repairs. Wiping devices clean daily is good standard practice, while changing the domes and wax filters can be done monthly or as required. When charging, check the lights on the charger and for non-rechargeable hearing aids, make sure the battery door is fully open to conserve battery life. Store your devices in a dry location, out of reach of pets or children. If you are noticing a build-up of earwax in your ear, speak to your doctor or audiologist about having it removed. Avoid using cotton buds. Avoid unnecessary moisture, debris or products (like hairspray) on the devices. Hearing aids benefit from an annual appointment with your audiologist to ensure they stay in good condition.

Troubleshooting

If your hearing aid is not working: Check or charge the batteries. Inspect the hearing aid for wax and remove it with the supplied cleaning tools. If wax is in the tube, vent, dome or earmould, it could be blocking sound. If your hearing aid is still not working, call the clinic for advice. If your hearing aid is whistling: Check it is sitting securely in your ear. A loose or poor fitting device can cause whistling. Consult your audiologist to make sure your hearing aid is configured to suit your current hearing levels.
