What to expect

Your appointment is designed to be thorough, comfortable and informative. At any stage, you’re encouraged to ask questions.

1. Initial consultation

We’ll start by learning about you: your hearing history, lifestyle, and any concerns you may have.

2. Ear examination

We will examine your outer ear, ear canal and eardrum, including a pressure test. This is not uncomfortable or invasive, and any issues will be clearly explained.

3. Hearing testing

You will complete a series of tests in a sound booth, where you’ll respond to tones and speech. This helps us determine the level and pattern of your hearing, as well as your ability to understand conversations in both quiet and noisy environments.

4. Personalised results & next steps

Following your assessment, your clinician will explain your results and discuss the most appropriate next steps based on your hearing and goals.

Who should have a hearing assessment

You may benefit from a hearing assessment if you are experiencing:

  • Difficulty hearing conversations
  • Ringing or buzzing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Ear pain or discomfort
  • Trouble hearing in noisy environments
  • Exposure to loud noise or machinery
  • Episodes of vertigo

It is also recommended that individuals have regular hearing check-ups from around the age of 55, even if no symptoms are present.

Understanding your results

Your results

After your assessment, your clinician will walk you through your results and what they mean for your hearing.

Your hearing is displayed on a graph called an audiogram, which shows:

  • The softest sounds you can hear at different pitches
  • The type of hearing loss (if present)
  • Your ability to understand speech in quiet and noisy environments

This helps put your hearing into context and explains why certain situations may be more challenging.
